Mother's aren't picky when in comes to mother's
day jewelry. Anything from a husband or child is sure to bring
happiness, even if it is in a color or style she isn't used to wearing.
Below are some suggestions on mother's jewelry and how to find something
she will like- even if it was coming from someone other than you!
Gemstones- What month was your mother born
in? There is a wide variety of birthstones
to choose from, not just limited to 12! For each month, there are
usually at least 2 or 3 stones the month is associated with; modern
stone, a historical stone, and an astrological stone.
Pearls- All women appreciate pearl
jewelry, after all, pearls are one of the very few gemstones
that relies completely on nature and cannot be improved upon by
a cutters hand. Before purchasing, consider buying pearls that compliment
your mother's complexion. Fair skin women look best with pink or
ivory pearls, olive skin looks best with yellow and gold, while
darker complexions look best with gold and vibrant colors such as
oranges, and purples.
Lockets- In olden times, lockets
contained a "lock" of hair and were worn by women who lost a child
or by young boys. Today, lockets containing pictures, and flowers,
in addition to hair are common gifts.
Rings- The most popular Mother's
rings are birthstone rings, and can be personalized with engraving.
The ring normally holds a combination of birthstones: the mother's
and a child's, or all the birthstones of her children. There are
also unique rings such as a band with tiny footprints, or a band
of interlocking hearts holding semi-precious stones. Available styles
include the swirl, cluster, star, "V", heart, and the
bow.
Charm bracelets- These bracelets are fast becoming
the most popular Mother's Day and birthday gifts, because they are
interchangeable and can easily be added to. The charms
themselves can be personalized with dates, names, and the like;
and they make great collector's pieces.
Pendants- For the more artistic Mother, there
are the contemporary, stylized pendants of a Mother and child embracing,
or a family holding hands, which can be inset with gemstones. Also,
for a unique twist, there is the Claddagh pendant, which is a Celtic
design of two hands holding a heart, surmounted by a crown. This
symbol has much significance, but at the basic level, it means loyalty
and unconditional love.
